Dads Assisting Dads

This class is for fathers of all descriptions. The program stresses the importance of active father participation in family life.  The goal of the program is to support men in the various roles they serve and to strengthen relationships between dads and their kids.

The class is a series of weekly group meetings. Fathers enjoy dinner or a snack, and then meet with a parent educator where they are invited to ask questions about stress management, family communications and relationships, as well as child development and parenting.

A parent/child activity is assigned each week to be done outside of class. On-site childcare services are available, in most cases.

Fathers attending the program provide input into the topics that are discussed throughout the series.  Some examples of topics discussed in the DAD’s program are:

  • Managing Stress (balancing career and family)
  • Building Supportive Networks for Your Family
  • Strengthening Relationships within Your Family
  • Understanding Child Development
  • Teaching Responsibility to Children and Setting Limits
  • Fathers' Role in the Family

Pre-Registration is required.  Please contact the Parent Education Consortium, (319) 399-6809.
