College for Kids
Grant Wood AEA's College for Kids is a summer program offering advanced level academic and fine arts courses in the college setting to eligible talented and gifted students who have completed 6th, 7th or 8th grade. Through the College for Kids experience, students are offered advanced or specialized curricula, and have the opportunity to further explore a hobby or a topic of interest not typically available in middle school general education.
Registration materials are sent home through area middle schools. Registration begins March 1.

Note: The College for Kids Enrichment and Art programs run concurrently on the Coe College campus.
Construction continues at Coe College so we will again offer our lab-based science classes at Mount Mercy University. The newly titled “STEM Academy” will be an expanded version of last year’s science academy.
We are excited about the 2012 academy and what it will offer participating students!
Program Descriptions
College for Kids – Summer Enrichment Program, Coe College
June 11-22 and July 9-20
$210/2-week session
Choose from more than 50 classes! Registered students will attend 3 classes each day for 2 weeks (1 hour/class). Classes are held Monday through Friday mornings.
College for Kids – Summer Art Program, Coe College
June 11-22 and July 9-20
$210/2-week session
Choose from more than 30 art-related classes! Registered students will attend 3 classes each day for 2 weeks (1 hour/class). Classes are held Monday through Friday mornings. Students may register for one or both sessions.
C4K STEM Academy, Mount Mercy University
June 25-29
$225/1-week session (full day program)
The academy is a full day program, running 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Space is limited. More details coming soon!
Eligibility Requirements

Enrichment and STEM Academy: Eligible students are those who will have completed 6th, 7th or 8th grade by summer 2012, and meet at least one of the criteria below:

Have been identified for/participate in a gifted and talented program in his/her school district, or
-
Have scored at the 85th percentile rank or above (national) on a standardized achievement test (ITBS or ITED) in one of the following areas: reading total, science total, math total, or complete composite/core total.

Art: Eligible art students are those who will have completed 6th, 7th or 8th grade by summer 2012, and meet both of the criteria below:

Have demonstrated exemplary fine arts ability or performance, and
-
Have demonstrated the ability to work cooperatively in a classroom setting
